Water

Freshwater resources are vital for human survival, for economic & social development, and for healthy ecosystems. Freshwater sources are finite and if not managed responsibly, they pose a threat to and are effected by social and environmental challenges. Of particular concern to the sustainable consumption of freshwater resources is overexploitation through immense withdrawals (and inefficient use) for agriculture, industrial processes and consumption within buildings.

With a growing population and an economic shift towards more water-intensive consumption, the challenge for water sustainability lies in its effective and sustainable management so that the quantity of freshwater withdrawals are less than the rate of natural replenishment. This means a change in production processes, as well as a transformation in the demand for water-intensive goods and services.
