EU Sustainable Mobility #1

#EUSustainableMobility is a project, launched in 2020 by Engaging Society (ES4S) in collaboration with Eurail, composed of a series of campaigns based around urban mobility and tourism-related travel, where ES4S invites young people to contribute to the conversation by responding to a survey with perceptions of their habits, beliefs, and intentions in order to foster a more sustainable behavior at the global level.

The 1st Campaign, which ran from November 2020 until February 2021, gathered the main insights on the future of sustainability mobility according to young Europeans based in Belgium, Italy, Germany and Spain.

On February 15, 2021- during the Final Awards Event, the winners of the Interrail Global Pass and discounted ticket for a travel buddy to travel around Europe between the Summer of 2021-2022, were announced. A Committee composed of 5 people from Eurail & ES4S assessed and reviewed the most innovative idea and creative picture which best expressed the concept of sustainable mobility to be applied in a Belgian, Italian German and Spanish city, based on the criteria of feasibility, sustainability, creativity, and date of submission.

The young Europeans, selected in the contest, thus had the opportunity to discuss their original and winning ideas in a debate about the future of sustainability mobility, in the frame of UN SDGs, with the Members of the European Parliament, local municipalities, ES4S and Eurail Committee, and the main stakeholders of the mobility sector.

WHAT IS #EUSUSTAINABLEMOBILITY

Mobility is an important part of our day to day lives and yet the global pandemic, which we still face today, has brought to light the vulnerability of a system previously taken for granted. Alongside this health crisis, is another crisis  significantly impacted by mobility: climate change. In the EU, the current mobility mix contributes to 25% of total greenhouse gas emissions, a major driver of our warming planet and the associated environmental and social problems. Therefore, we take this opportunity to pause for a moment and reflect on the future of mobility, in the context of both Covid-19 and climate change.

Congratulations to the winners of the 1st campaign and thank you for sharing your ideas and pictures!
